Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I use my wireless laptop card and get online anywhere?
No, due to the hardware operating differently, our wireless network does not appear on network stumblers. This is how we can boast about having such high security. Not only that, wireless devices must be permitted to "talk" with our access points. So should someone else have one of the units we use, they would not be able to access our network. Our service is not a roaming service.
What's involved in getting wireless?
It's simple. We collect all the information we need. We go out and perform a site survey (to see if we have a point of presence enabled near you). Then we come out and install the equipment, leaving a standard ethernet termination for you to plug your computer or router into. Finally, you connect to our service using a PPPoE session.
What happens to my phone line, or how does that come into the situation?
We dont touch phone lines. unlike dialup where a connection doesnt let you use the phone, or ISDN where your speed drops when a phone call comes through or waiting weeks for the codes to be put on your line before you connect, we dont affect it at all. Some clients actually rely on their mobile phones, not having a landline, saving money on line rental. We use radio waves to transfer data instead of using the phone lines.
What's ADSL, and whats Broadband? ADSL stands for Asynchronous Data Subscriber Line. Asynchornous: This means that the two forms of transmission, upload and download are different. Data Subscriber Line: Basically, this just means "connection for someone wanting to connect via phone line".Broadband is a term used for any high speed internet (faster than dialup) basically. The difference between what we provide and what ADSL is known as, is ADSL uses a phone line. Wireless Broadband doesnt.ADSL is a form of broadband, but not all broadband is ADSL.
I want Internet. Please?
We can do that! First we need to determine whether your residence has a clear line of sight to one of our APs or is in an area that has ADSL enabled. Given that broadband prices have dropped to the same level as regular dialup, there’s no reason not to go for that speed boost. Speak with one of our sales staff and they will help you work out what plan suits you best.
Where do I sign?
You can find all our contact details on our Contact page. if you email or call us, we will walk you through and get you connected. See you online.
Am I getting my Bandwidth?
BroadbandNet under the act of DCITA terms and conditions are required to provide an average data download and upload speed of at least 60% of the customer peak speed. This 60% must be obtainable at least 70% of the time while the customer continues to pay for their service. To ensure that the speeds are met by the customer there is a Broadband Connect Speed Test website setup by DCITA, from here Broadband Connect customers can test their speeds. This site is located at www.bctest.com.au.
There are also another 2 locations to try your download speed by downloading certain files.
- Download this 10mb file from our Local network here.
- Download this 50mb file from our Local network here.
What does shaping or excess mean?
To maintain plan speeds after monthly download allowance is reached select the $6 per GB option. Select the Shaping option if you wish to have your speed reduced once monthly download allowance is reached. Once 100% of limit is reached speeds will be shaped to 72k/33k, once 120% of limit is reached speeds will be shaped further to 33k/33k. BBLite and BBLite Plus do not have shaping option available, please see conditions that apply.
